proclamation · 1865
Proclamation by Governor Sir Charles Henry Darling (by command of J.M. Grant, Commissioner of Crown Lands and Survey), 15 June 1865, withdrawing numerous Crown allotments in Victorian agricultural areas from sale, selection, or leasing under the Amending Land Act 1865. Affected land offices include Camperdown, Wangaratta, Mansfield, Benalla, Stawell, Warrnambool, Ararat, Beaufort, Portland, Hamilton and Sandhurst; reasons range from valuation of improvements/land, road deviation, gazetted-in-error, and (for Ararat/Stawell parishes) the auriferous character of the country at the instance of the Mining Board.
