General Post Office (Melbourne, 14 April 1858; William Turner, Secretary) Country List of Unclaimed Ship Letters for March 1858 - the GPO's monthly dead-letter list naming several thousand individuals whose ship-borne mail lay unclaimed at country post offices across Victoria. Offices span the colony: Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Benalla, Carngham, Ceres, Colac, Daylesford, Dunkeld, Buckland, Gisborne, Horsham, Sandhurst, Ballaarat, Castlemaine, Geelong, Williamstown and dozens more, the Williamstown entries each naming the arriving ship (Windsor, El Dorado, Postumus, Witch of the Wave, etc.). A dense genealogical name source, not an electoral or directory register.
